Former Wirral Met College Principal and Ceo, Sue Higginson OBE DL, has been awarded Wirral's highest honour, Freedom of the Borough.

The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jerry Williams, presented the award to Sue before a civic dinner attended by members of her family and civic dignitaries, including the Lord-Lieutenant and the High Sheriff of Merseyside on Tuesday 27 February.

Sue, who retired from her position as Principal and CEO of Wirral Met College in 2023, dedicated over 34 years to Further Education, serving as Principal and CEO of Wirral Met College for 11 years. 

The Mayor of Wirral, said: “The Freedom of the Borough award demonstrates how this Council and many of our residents feel about the exceptional contribution that Sue has made to our borough, its young people and to our civic life.

“It is difficult to overestimate the positive impact she has had on the personal development and life chances of tens of thousands of our young people.”
