On Wednesday 15 February, Level 1 and 2 Catering students helped to raise funds for the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal with a charity cake sale.

Over 35,000 individuals lost their lives and countless others were injured following the catastrophic earthquakes that struck southern Türkiye (formerly referred to as Turkey) and northwestern Syria.

The students baked, decorated, and sold cupcakes to their fellow students and staff members in order to raise money for the appeal.

The bake sale successfully raised £100 for the appeal, which will go towards providing crucial aid in the aftermath of the earthquakes. The funds will support the distribution of necessities such as food, water, and blankets, as well as the establishment of emergency provisions like shelter, first aid, and psychological support.

Matthew Rooney, a Level 2 Diploma in Food Production and Cooking student, said, “Thanks to everyone who bought a cupcake. Every cupcake bought is a help towards the affected countries.”

Tyler Mighall, also of Level 2 Diploma in Food Production and Cooking, said, “It felt really nice to help people in need.”
